Course Description

Executives in professional organizations are expected to solve problems and make decisions, but ultimately, they must communicate them effectively to a variety of stakeholders. This course is designed to integrate knowledge of the pervasive impact of computer and other information technologies with time-honored communications principles to enable students to maximize their effectiveness in diverse and technologically dynamic business environments.



This course will enable students to grasp the many facets of effective communication in business. A proper understanding of communication is integral in order to create a positive public image, handle crisis, implement change, or deal with government regulation. From high-ranking CEOs to entry-level positions, the value of delivering and receiving a clear message, both internally and externally, is becoming increasingly salient thanks to emerging competition and new technology.

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in Module/Week 1.

  1. Discussion Board Forum Threads (4)

Discussion boards are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will choose a case study question located at the end of the scheduled chapter readings and write a 350–450-word thread. The student will be required to provide academic research and a relevant biblical concept to support his/her ideas.

In the modules/weeks following each thread, the student will be required to post a 250-word minimum reply to at least 2 other students’ threads. This is not simply an agreement or disagreement with the thread, but it should analyze ideas and include academic research to support the analysis.

  1. Research Paper: Annotated Bibliography

Prior to writing the Research Paper, the student will provide an annotated bibliography of 25 references (in current APA format with a cover page) that he/she plans on using for his/her research. Each reference should include a summary, analysis, and reflection.

The student will submit a detailed outline of the research he/she has performed which summarizes the order and content of the Research Paper. The outline should be very specific and include references.

Assignments that are submitted after the due date without prior approval from the instructor will receive the following deductions:

My topic is : The Ways and Means of Managing Washington

I would like to conduct my research on the ways and means of managing Washington.  I think this would be interesting to connect how businesses reach out to the government.

Instructor comments: Kevin – If you would…please say a little more about your intent. Please be sure to focus on the communicative aspects of a topic.


On the surface, what I find of interest is how CEO’s, and senior leadership are able to break down barriers and create opportunities to engage government officials and legislators regarding their company or self interest. I would also be interested in understanding how a company CEO can take a different position and assert their idea/position how its value has deep impact that benefits many not just the few. Of course this extends to lobbying and PAC’s.

You will provide an annotated bibliography of 25 references that you plan to use for your research paper. This must be in APA format, with a cover page and references that each includes a summary, analysis and reflection. This assignment is due by 12 midnight (EST) on the Sunday of Week 3.

An annotated bibliography is a list of sources and includes APA formatted references to the articles, books and resources (all which should have been found through the Liberty University Online Library) which one has compiled for a research assignment. Following each reference is a brief description and an evaluation of the source. The purpose of an annotated bibliography is to benefit the researcher and provide the content, relevance and quality of the sources.
